Lets try it: internet black mask

Sometimes I see beauty products on instagram and facebook that I just shake my head at. I know it won’t work, I see their little close ups on the skin and whats left on the mask/pad/cloth and just have a bit of a rage-attack.

The Black Mask was one of these.

Scandinavian Beauty Tips

I asked you guys this week on Instagram if you could see my Nordic beauty secret in my photo from camp:

The bikini was a distraction just a bit….

I decided that I wanted to focus on Scandinavian beauty secrets because if you can’t tell from my last name: I’m married to quite the Finn man. My grandfather was Norwegian and Swedish. Also where I live is the second largest Finnish population outside of Finland.

Stop Trying to Sell Me MLM’s!

I am generally patient and polite to sales people, even though my personality doesn’t like being cold called or appreciate being told that “I can’t live without” something. I understand local advertisers calling me looking for more ad sales, and they aren’t pushy.  Multi-level Marketing (MLM) sales people on the other hand: holy hell I just can’t handle it.

MLM’s like Rodan+Fields, Nerrium, Younique, and even getting to pushy avon ladies… just no.

Questions for Scotia: “Young Ladies Starting Makeup”

Questions For Scotia: this month’s question for me was from Nikki.
“how do you go about introducing makeup and skin care to a 13 year old?”

yGreat question because as we know from so many studies and documentaries like “Killing Us Softly”, that the media starts early and hits hard at our young women with the massive media presented image of “WHAT YOU NEED TO LOOK LIKE”. Which to all us grown ups shake our heads, and shed a tear for all the pain we know our young ones will go through and for some, may never get past.

I will give you my last answer first: the best is always take them to someone who is a professional: a makeup artist at a store or spa, an esthetician, or a hair stylist. They can point you in the right direction for answers.
But now I can in detail answer you.

Trendy Microblading

If you know me or have been reading my blogs long enough you’ve herd my rants about permanent makeup tattooing and how I think its pretty stupid outside of fixing medical issues like scars, skin graphs and such things.

BUT I will say that the newest trend that falls into this grouping of tattoo makeup is microblading.

Weird Skin Care: Vampire Facial

So next in my newest fascination of “why would you put that on your face?” I want to talk about the “Vampire Facial”.

Madame Lalaurie from American Horror Story also thought blood facials would keep your skin looking young

If you were in my esthetics class at Everest college, you’d be surprised I am still conflicted on this skin care. I went on a pretty big rant when it first came out. I imagined the science behind it to be inspired by Elizabeth Bathory.

But now after really looking into the science and ideas behind the Vampire Facial it sounds like it could be a great alternative to more invasive procedures.

Weird Skin Care: Placenta Facials

Somehow Placenta Facials has come up more then a few times in the past month in talking with friends and clients. My job inspires odd conversations which is great!

So why would you want to stick a placenta on your face?

The idea is that because its so clean and pure and highly packed with stem cells that it will have many benefits.  It is associated with many different cultural practices and also is apart of a new esthetics trend called “live cell therapy”.
